Tyson Graduated!!

Tyson graduated from Fresno State with a Masters in Criminology on May 16, 2008! I am so proud of him! I think it is SO awesome that Tyson graduated with distinction (4.0 GPA) and he was also awarded with the Outstanding Graduate Student Award and he was nominated for the Outstanding Thesis Award :)Photobucket
From Tyson's perspective(an excerpt from his journal) he says, "I'm so glad it's over, but part of me is going to miss it. I've developed a love for learning. I still have a strong desire to accomplish a PhD. I know I just graduated but, I won't be leaving the world of academia just yet. The Department of Criminology has a asked me to teach a class (or two) next semester. Plus, this summer I'm still working on several projects with different professors from the Criminology Department. I was lucky enough to score some grant money doing odd jobs for professors. I'm excited to be teaching next semester at the University level, too. I will be teaching Comparative Criminology- basically comparing criminal justice systems internationally. It will be challenging, but worth the experience."Photobucket
Again, I am so proud of him and excited to see what he will accomplish in the future. Tyson is the kind of guy that if he wants to accomplish something he will do everything in his power to make it happen! He's already talking about getting published and trying to meet all of the requirements for competitive PhD programs all over the US and even Europe. So, who knows what's in the future for us? For now, we are both working, Tyson is interviewing for various jobs, and I am in summer school... we are busy but we are still scheduling in time to "play" this summer. We've already planned a trip to New York and D.C. !! We'll be leaving in mid July with our friends Steve and Sarah Lopez for a week of fun in the big apple :) It's sort of going to be our one year wedding anniversary trip:) We are stoked!

Ashley and Tyson

We decided to jump on board with everyone encouraging us to create a blog. So, I've only read maybe 3 or 4 "blogs"...basically my blog is going to update everyone on what's happening with me and Tyson.
For starters, we just got married on July 27th, 2007. Photobucket PhotobucketSo far, our first year together has been a lot of fun. Tyson just finished off his thesis project at Fresno State and will be graduating with his Masters in Criminology in May. Everyone seems to ask him, "What's next?" and right now Tyson's thinking that he wants to take at least one year off and work full time and then possibly go on to get his Doctorate.
I attend Fresno City College and love studying Art. I am currently in an Anatomy drawing class, which has been an interesting topic of conversation this semester. It's weird seeing average, everyday people without their clothes on. I plan to finish my Associates in Art Degree next year with an emphasis on 2-D Art. I would love to eventually work my way to a Masters of Fine Art and teach at a University. My parents are both teachers and it's a profession that I really respect and I think I would find a lot of joy doing it.

Anyway, we just celebrated Easter by taking a little road trip with Tyson's long time friend, Brad Kennington, down to San Diego. PhotobucketIt was a lot of fun! We were there just three short days. Our first night there, we went out to dinner right on the coast in Mission Bay with my girlfriend Heidi Henderson and her husband Logan. PhotobucketPhotobucketIt was a short and sweet reunion and the food was tasty:) Our next day there we attended the San Diego Temple together Photobucketand then spent the afternoon playing Kuub on the beach, PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketthat night we met up with one of Tyson's old friends Jeremy Sorenson and his wife Stephanie. Our last day there, and the highlight of the trip was attending the San Diego Temple for Kim Heinbeck's wedding!! The reception was in Fallbrook, which I soon learned was the avocado capitol of the world because Tyson, Brad, Brittany Ryan, and myself were put to work making guacamole for Kim's reception:)Photobucket It was messy but a cool experience. PhotobucketOverall, it was a short but fun filled trip! Easter Sunday was spent back home in Clovis with Tyson's wonderful parents, Mike and Maxine and my sister-in-law Amy, and my brother-in-law Troy and his wife Melanie and our two adorable nieces Hannah, and Kylie.PhotobucketPhotobucket
